I know, with a super exciting title like “Portland Action Summit: Leadership for the Next Generation” this event practically sells itself. But I delved a bit deeper and looked at the agenda and think this would be a worthwile event to attend, especially maybe for high school seniors who will have just finished their classes and are looking for something constructive to do (you know who you are . . . )
June 1 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Smith Memorial Student Union Ballroom – 3rd floor
1825 SW Broadway
Portland, OR 97201
The event is free but preregistration is required: http://portlandactionsummit.eventbrite.com/
Presented by the Portland City Club, the event will indeed feature a roster of the usual adult suspects — the mayor, Sam Adams, the PPS superintendent Carole Smith, and county commissioner Loretta Smith — all of who have demonstrated a real commitment to listening to the city’s youth. The will participate in a “charette” which is apparently the 2000′s word for “roundtable discussion”.
This event, however, will also have practical training sessions on how youth can reach out to more students and peers.
