Here is a great opportunity for 7th and 8th grade girls: a free 4-week computer camp at Pacific University in Forest Grove. Girls Gather for Computer Science (www.g2cs.org) is not only a summer program, this organization looks to keep in touch with the girls for 10 years after their participation to keep them engaged and support them through their high school, college and early professional careers. Its just this kind of follow up and regular contact (us grownups call it “networking”) that will most likely result in more engaged and successful students. Camp dates are June 19 – July 13 weekdays.
The camp is run by female instructors, including staff from Pacific University’s Computer Science department. The program is not only for students, but teachers are invited and encouraged to attend as well. The camp meets daily9:00-3:30 and includes an overnight stay at the coast in the second week. This will be the camp’s second year.
